In June of 2024 a group of friends sat at a banquet celebrating our shared love of science fiction and fantasy, and listening to me talk about whales. I offered to change topics because I am well aware I could talk about whales and the ocean forever if folks let me. Their answer? Nope, keep talking, and while you’re at it, you need to do a newsletter to share this with other folks. Five months later I started Whale Tales and Glitter the newsletter. You can read the collection and subscribe here.
Having never done a newsletter or written about whales in anything more than a Facebook or Instagram post, it took a while to find my voice there. In the process I realized I had a way more things I wanted to know about and share with folks than would fit in a newsletter. I also tended to write more than really works in the format of a newsletter. This time it was my husband who suggested the solution: a website where I could post my longer and more wide spread explorations and Deep Dives was born!
Deep Dives is home to my thoughts and explorations on whales, of course, but also my love of aquariums, my fascination with the ocean, the cool critter I just found out about, interesting places I’ve been related to science, and some of the amazing people behind all of these things I love. To simplify things for me and you, I’ve collected them into four categories: Spotlight: information about some of the amazing people who have laid the foundation for the study of Marine Biology, Trip Reports: Information about trips I’ve been on to see whales, glaciers, cool rock formations, and science related exhibits, Deep Dives: the rabbit holes of research and discovery I’ve fallen down, and Aquariums: all the aquariums I’ve seen in my quest to see as many of them as possible. You can check out the most recent posts in each category below or “Read More” to see the complete collection.
Come watch whales be awesome, learn about amazing marine scientists, fall in love with aquariums, or fall down a rabbit hole with me 🙂 And if there are things you’d like to know more about, let me know I’m always up for a good research session!
